Which Olympic medalists do you admire the most and why?

Dara Torres

While most Olympians would only compete in one or two events, Dara Torres would create history by competing for the United States in five Olympic Games (1984, 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2008). Twelve Olympic medals later, she is the oldest athlete on the United States Olympic squad. Since Dara Torres’s knees were giving her trouble, she had to retire. She hoped to compete in the 2012 Olympics, but she retired after the trials. She got her start as a model, and now she’s a reporter for several different television stations.

Apolo Ohno

When 14-year-old Apolo Ohno won the United States National Championship in short-track speed skating, he became the country’s youngest ever national champion. From 2001-2009, he reigned as champion, amassing eight medals at the Winter Games. When he was at his peak, he was the undisputed poster boy for American short track and the most decorated Olympian in American history. Apolo Ohno withdrew from competitive swimming in 2013 and is now a motivational speaker and the owner of a supplement company. He competed on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2007 and ended up as the champion.
