Long Hair for Burning Man
The original Burning Man blaze was planned by a small group of 12 friends, but now anybody can participate. In recent years, rumours have circulated about some of Silicon Valley’s most powerful figures. Many prominent businesspeople and tech entrepreneurs, including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, and Google’s Larry Page and Eric Schmidt, have been observed at Burning Man. The Facebook founder is said to have flown in via helicopter to offer grilled cheese sandwiches. Musk made multiple appearances at the gathering. In his words to The New York Times, “If you haven’t been there, you just don’t get it.”
The Area Is Expanding Far Beyond Its Former Definition of “Tent City”
Even while there are a number of people who choose to camp out in tents during Burning Man, there are also some real glampers in attendance. The most well-to-do Burners travel in fancy recreational vehicles and set up exclusive camps complete with bodyguards, private chefs, air conditioning, and other movable luxuries. These extravagant camps, also known as “Billionaire’s Row,” are home to wealthy Burners, including Silicon Valley tech bosses and Wall Street superstars looking for a secret getaway from the pressures of the office. A-listers, athletes, and moguls of the real estate and construction industries mingle over meals prepared by famous chefs and bottles of the best spirits and wines. It costs $50k to buy a plot of land on “Billionaire’s Row.”
