This temporary city has at its centre a permanent community of people who are committed to a wide range of causes, including but not limited to: celebrating creativity, self-expression, cultural diversity, knowledge sharing, and the removal of societal stigma. To bring together people from all over the world for a big, one-of-a-kind event in the middle of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

Burning Man has grown and adapted over the years, taking on some of the challenges and opportunities of actual cities while maintaining its own system of government. The sense of camaraderie and belonging at Burning Man is, nonetheless, palpable. If you want people to be willing and active members and advocates of your community, you must make it clear what is expected of them.
