Playa Foot: Something to Watch Out For
The condition known as Playa foot is common among Burners. The Playa’s dry lake bed has a high alkaline content, so the sand is saturated with the ancient sediment. Barefoot movement in alkaline sands produces an effect similar to a chemical burn. Cracked skin or an open cut might amplify the reaction. Keep your toes covered!
