Taking Pictures at Burning Man
It’s easy to see why Burning Man attracts so many photographers in search of surreal scenery. The desert comes to life with the help of some stunning sights. It goes without saying that photographers are welcome. After all, the principles of Radical Inclusivity are at the heart of our event. Nonetheless, there are several standards that photographers must uphold. Asking for permission to take images is the first rule of photography etiquette. And especially in situations where someone’s privacy is threatened, such as when they are fully or partially nude. Don’t be “That Guy,” the guy who uses a telephoto lens to shoot close-ups of women’s breasts or the guy who follows around naked women like paparazzi in order to snap a picture of them. Taking pictures of criminal activity is likewise frowned upon.
Be Sure to Hydrate
Bring plenty of water with you and remember to drink it. At the end of August, the Nevada desert may get very warm. The weather can change at any moment. The temperature can change drastically between night and day. The Playa will be hot and dry, so be sure to hydrate well before heading there. Unexpected downpours and subsequent flooding are typical occurrences. Organize yourself!
