Expressing Oneself Radically
The concept of “Radical Self-expression” revolves around highlighting one’s own strengths. The development of one’s unique talents is praised and supported. Numerous people are talented artists, jewellers, or designers. Due to the open-ended nature of the gifting policy, it is expected that “the giver respects the rights and liberties of the recipient.” In homage to the original Burning Man site, the nudist beach at Baker Beach, undress on the Playa is not only acceptable but encouraged. While most participants choose to dress up in elaborate costumes to show off their unique personalities, many others prefer to go shirtless to truly let their inner self shine.
Coordinated Effort
At Burning Man, people of all creative backgrounds are encouraged to work together. According to “We try to generate, promote, and defend social networks, public spaces, works of art, and systems of communication that facilitate such engagement,” the Communal Effort principle is fundamental to fostering and maintaining healthy communities. In the Burning Man community, everyone has each other’s backs. A community will rally around a member who is in need.
