The Real Feelings of Sally Field and Other Women Towards Burt Reynolds

All bets are off.

Field didn’t paint a rose-colored picture of her relationship with Reynolds in the book, either. Though it was obvious that she felt strongly for him at first, Field accused him of being possessive. The actor, for instance, allegedly discouraged her from attending the 1977 Emmys, where she went on to win an award.

Complicated emotions

After Reynolds’ passing, Field was “flooded with sentiments and nostalgia over him,” she said to The New York Times. On the other hand, she was happy that Reynolds would never read her autobiography, as the actress said. It would be harmful to him, Field said. That he wouldn’t have to read it, be questioned about it, and explain himself or lash out, as he undoubtedly would have, gave me great relief. The last thing I wanted to do was cause him more pain.
