What is it about bad parents and woodworking tools that makes them so appealing? What is it about axes and hammers that kids find so appealing? Is it the shock factor that they’re after? Destroying your child’s possessions to demonstrate your control will teach them nothing except that your proclivity for overreacting is harmful. It sets the tone for a difficult childhood, one kids are unlikely to remember fondly. In their therapist’s office, you’ll be the story they tell over and over.

This isn’t a kind of retaliation. We’re all able to see right through it. It’s a psychotic parent that enjoys seeing their child’s dissatisfaction. No decent parent would subject their child to this, and no rational person would find it entertaining to watch. Under the pretense of teaching a child a lesson, psychological abuse is still abuse. If someone told this parent they won a new automobile, drove them to the dealership, then handed them a Hot Wheels toy, they’d be furious.
