The Amish have no musical instruments
Though the Amish attend church every Sunday and sing hymns of worship to the Lord, their musical expression is limited. Their culture permits singing but not the use of musical instruments. Even learning to play a musical instrument is forbidden. Musical instruments are essentially prohibited in the community. The Amish think that modesty and humility are important ideals to live by. Playing a musical instrument is considered inappropriate since it requires too much self-expression and creativity, which are not typical in such a traditional setting.
Relationship status is a closely guarded secret
Unlike most individuals today, who post their relationship status on their Facebook sites for all to see, the Amish prefer to keep their relationship status private. None of them post their engagement photos on the internet. Instead, they silently enjoy their partnerships. Amish couples who are newly engaged are not permitted to reveal their relationship status with anybody other than their immediate parents and family. They must wait four weeks before disclosing their connection at a church “publishing” ceremony.
