Marilyn was originally photographed while working on the assembly line at a defence plant. Such was the stunning quality of the photographs that they were sent to a modelling agency. It’s not surprising that they were eager to sign Marilyn. This was a fantastic opportunity for her, but unfortunately, there was an obstacle in her way. Marilyn’s husband did not support her decision to pursue a modelling career. Fortunately, she did not let that deter her from pursuing her goal. She put in a lot of time and effort before landing a position in Hollywood. Her agent quickly let her know that she shouldn’t expect much support from Hollywood heavy hitters due to her marriage.

It was disheartening to learn that the studios wouldn’t hire her since she was married. But Marilyn had a gut feeling about what was best. In the end, she made the decision to pursue a career as an actor in Los Angeles.
Marilyn finally decided that she wanted a divorce from him. In 1946, after she and Dougherty had been together for four years, she signed and submitted the documents legally ending their relationship. Finally, she has the opportunity to go out and try to become a Hollywood actress.
