The reunion between Berniece and her sister was long overdue; it took six years from the time Berniece first learnt of her sister’s existence until the two eventually met. It took a very long time to happen. After waiting until she became eighteen, Marilyn boarded a train bound for Detroit, where her sister had recently settled. Nearly Identical
They became inseparable from the moment they first met. The two sisters had a lot to talk about while Berniece’s husband drove them back to the city, including their shared childhood and their own families. Their friendship deepened as they shared more and more stories together. Some previously unknown details were revealed. Not only did they come from similar backgrounds, but they also shared a similar appearance. Except for the colour of their eyes, people would confuse Berniece and Marilyn for twins. Neither of us could take our eyes off of the other, Berniece recounted. There were a lot of similarities between us, including our dark blonde hair styled in a widow’s peak, our mouths, and our noses, but our eyes were different.
