Ending His Long Silence, John Travolta

Failed to Meet the Standards

John Travolta was not a good student as a kid because he was too preoccupied with honing his acting chops. Indeed, this reflected in some of the characters he portrayed, such as in Grease and Welcome Back Kotter, when he was one of the “cool kids” but not necessarily at the top of his class. Teachers worried about Travolta’s lack of interest in schoolwork because he quickly realised that a career in the performing arts was where he belonged. As for how he interacted with his instructors, Travolta reportedly “tried to communicate with them on a more adult level” by simply being charming.
