Exposed by Dance
In the blockbuster film Saturday Night Fever from 1977, Travolta astounded viewers with his acting and dancing chops. Even though Travolta was born with an innate ability to dance, he had to hone his skills through practise and dedication to become a truly formidable performer. Travolta spent nine months in rigorous dance training for this role. He was motivated to incorporate Soul Train-style elements into his dancing after watching the film. At the time, Travolta spoke on his preference for “black dancing” over “white dancing” in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, and on how he aimed to incorporate the vibe of Soul Train into Saturday Night Fever.
