Céline Dion’s incredible life, from a difficult childhood to marrying her manager

First role

Céline has appeared in various TV shows, not just late-night interviews. One of her most talked-about roles was in the classic ABC soap opera “All My Children” alongside soap opera diva Erica Kane. The director asked her to be herself and not try too hard, and her star power easily carried the role.

René’s Health

Céline Dion recognised that their age gap could lead to medical issues when she married her manager at 26. René, 49, had a heart attack three years before they married. He later had throat cancer but recovered fully. Ten years later, he developed a heart condition and needed surgery to clear an arterial blockage, but it wasn’t an emergency. Later, he had surgery for recurrent throat cancer and resigned as Céline’s manager to focus on his health. Dion said her husband’s disease was worsening in late 2015 and he would die soon. Four months after the news, Angélil died. His funeral and burial were televised nationally. All federal buildings in Canada displayed half-mast flags in his honour. He also won a “In Memoriam” Grammy.
