Fraser’s performance in Dogfight had a significant enough effect that he was eventually given his first starring role in the comedy Encino Man in 1992. In this role, he played an ancient caveman who emerged from a sizable block of ice to experience modern life for the first time. The modest actor would later quip that his audition for Encino Man consisted of wordlessly wrestling a plant, but he earned the part and delivered a performance that is still regarded as a cult favorite.
