Shooting Was Delayed Due to Robert Downey Jr.’s Injury
A wire-rigged stunt involving Robert Downey Jr. resulted in a sprained ankle for the actor on the set of Ironman 3. Due to the doctor-ordered six-week break for Downey’s rehabilitation, production was severely slowed when he was injured. The producers figured out how to film Downey’s parts without him being present. His scenes were performed by an actor who had a body double and a replacement face. You may view the scenes that were shot after the disaster in the concluding sequence on the beach.
