1937: Women in a Hair Salon

In 1890, a French stylist named Alexander Godefroy came up with the first hair dryer. His invention, which was a hat that was attached to the chimney pipe of a gas stove, had to be used for a few hours to do what he wanted it to do. In 1920, the first hand-held hair dryers came out on the market. Even so, large hairdryers, especially the ones with the rigid hoods that came out in the 1950s, are still common in hair salons all over the world.

A Robot Vacuum From 1959

The Robo-Vac was introduced in 1959 as part of Whirlpool’s Miracle Kitchen of the Future at the American National Exhibition in Moscow. It was the first vacuum cleaner that could clean itself. The Robo-Vac has sensors that help it find its way around a room, just like robot vacuums do today. From July 25 to September 4, 1959, the American National Exhibition was held. More than three million people went to the Cold War event, which gave American companies a chance to show off their products, which ranged from home appliances to cars and farm equipment.
