Amazing pictures from the past that show how life used to be

Putting out an airship

At the beginning of the 20th century, people thought that airships were the future of business travel by air. Large airships with lounges, dining rooms, and passenger cabins were made in the United States, Germany, and Britain. Unfortunately, a number of high-profile accidents, such as the crash of the R101 in 1930, the crash of the USS Akron in 1933, and the Hindenburg disaster in 1937, made airships less popular. Airships and blimps are mostly used for other things now, such as advertising, sightseeing, and scientific research.

Vintage Magic

In the past, magicians like Harry Houdini (shown below) amazed people with tricks that seemed impossible. The most interesting thing about this time in history is how Houdini fought against the Spiritualist movement, which was led by mediums who said they could talk to the dead. In the early 1920s, after World War I, many people tried to get in touch with loved ones who had died. Houdini fought back hard against this because he thought it was a form of exploitation.
