Despite having everything they needed, the lovebirds were unhappy in their lives. “We looked around and wondered, ‘What are we doing?'” Tawny revealed this in an interview. As a result, they decided to leave town and arrange their first vacation to Europe. Once overseas, the couple found that the flexibility to roam was exactly what their lives lacked. “We don’t want to be confined to one location,” Tawny stated. “We don’t want to keep doing the same thing and going through the same day.” The couple aspired to travel full-time.
Purchasing a Bus
But how could they pay to turn their travel fantasies into reality? The pair found a solution in the skoolie community when they purchased a school bus to transform into a small home on wheels. “The most important thing was to let go of the shame and guilt that came with wanting something else,” Tawny stated. “The toughest adjustment was letting go of the conventional ‘normal’ existence in favor of the one we genuinely wanted,” she noted. But there was no turning back. Mike and Tawny paid $5,000 for their new home, a yellow 2004 International school bus.
