A Couple Converted a School Bus Into a DIY Home

The Breakfast Bar & Heater

The other side of the kitchen’s back counter, as anticipated, provides space for a pair of stools – the ideal mini breakfast bar or study/workspace. But that’s not the only treasure discovered over here, as evidenced by the image below. Mike and Tawny have a little Jotul stove to keep the skoolie warm. “It’s been incredible. It kept us warm for the entire Montana winter, which is difficult to achieve “Tawny spoke up. For fire safety, the couple erected a cement board around the stove and covered it with a steel shield. But wait, there’s more to this motorhome’s kitchen than meets the eye.

Extra Pantry Space

Mike and Tawny built this shelving unit to store dry foods like lentils and beans in addition to the several cabinets beneath the kitchen counter. The back of the shelf is a repurposed antique map from their previous home that the pair couldn’t bear to part with. Elastic cording runs across the front of the shelves, allowing you easy access while keeping things orderly while driving. Mike stated that the other shelves in the house “had cargo nets that fit over the face of the shelves.” Let’s go inside the bedroom now.
